I was doing an open house a couple of weeks ago in the South East Calgary community of McKenzie Lake...
It was such a beautiful day for January, it reminded me of the bike rides we often take from Fish Creek Provincial Park along the Bow River up to the ridge in Lake McKenzie. The switchbacks up the hill provide a quick little challenge for any cyclist, but the reward at the top is definitely worth it. In my opinion, there just isn't a better view in Calgary than the one from the ridge that runs along McKenzie Lake and Douglasdale Estates.

The families in the homes on the ridge enjoy a panoramic view of the Bow River, the Canadian Rockies, and the Calgary cityscape... which is close enough to see, but far enough to feel comfortably away from it all. At Sunset, the view gives new meaning to the "Magic Hour."
McKenzie Lake is home to 2 Calgary Board of Education schools including McKenzie Lake School, and Mountain Park School, as well as Calgary Catholic School District school, Cardinal Newman. Right across Deerfoot Trail from McKenzie Lake are all the shops of South Trail Crossing and Shepard Centre. You'll find all the grocery stores there including Calgary Co-Op, Safeway and Superstore. For any home owner, it's good to know there's a Canadian Tire & Home Depot near by as well. When the Home Depot was first built, I was in the middle of my own home renovation and spent a lot of time at hardware stores. Since, it seemed, no one else knew this Home Depot existed yet, I would glide blissfully down the empty aisles bumping into no one, because for that short while, it was my own private building supply store. By now everyone else has caught on ;)
Situated in the South East corner of Calgary just West of Deerfoot Trail, and north of Highway 22x, Lake McKenzie has quick access to the major roads leading into town or out of town. Just 20 minutes West on Highway 22X and you're in Bragg Creek. An hour east on the same road, and you're in Hidden Valley Resort.
